What is it?

The Flash-8 Expansion Board enables you to save that fine Slicing session, an entire  drum sample set, running SGS Sequence, or just a favorite recording you like to Slice up!

The current sample R/P, Infinite Echo, or Layer playing will resume upon loading as if the Reflex was never powered down letting you continue fine tuning Slices or start clocking a Slice Groove Sequence that was created yesterday.

The old session can be erased and the new saved in it's place, or saved separately as a safety or to return to a previous configuration. New sessions cannot overwrite another session without erasing it first, which is an added safety feature.

MIDI Bonus!

In addition to the Flash-8's backup capabilities, a complete MIDI interface has been included to enable full remote control of the Reflex LiveLoop from any DAW or MIDI hardware via standard MIDI input.

Many parts of the Reflex that can't be accessed from the panel or jacks can be controlled i.e. Equalizer Split channels, Dry input Balance, Sampler Panning, independent level controls, Slice Velocity...see below for a comprehensive list of the MIDI controls.

MIDI Notes-->Sample Slices / Sample Rate! MIDI Notes can select up to 168 Slices or chromatically shift the rate of any sample or PlayFX re-trigger as notes with velocity. There is even a Portamento (Glide) control and sustain pedal recognition!

Using a DAW Sequencer to control record slices, record samples or start an echo in sync is amazing and allows live audio to be sampled, sliced, and sequenced immediately, even simultaneously, adding a new dimension to you DAW sequencer software

Installation

So Your Flash-8 board has arrived?

Once you have the Flash-8 board installed (see installation), you can listen to the demo from Slot # 8 by:
1)  holding the EQ button until the LED circle lights, then
2)  use the Rate Knob to select the 8th LED ( slot # 8 ) and
3)  press the green Play button to load & play the demo!
This demo can of course be erased later by entering the flash (hold EQ button), selecting slot # 8 and hold the White Slice button to erase it.

Simple to Save & Load:

To Save a Session:
1)  Press and hold the EQ button until the LED circle completely lights up
2)  Use the Rate knob to select which empty slot # you want to save your session to. * The slot must not be flashing as this indicates a session saved there.
3)  Tap the Record button to start saving. *Do not power down until the LED's stop jumping around (about 3 seconds) or it will not be saved.

To Load a Session:
1)  Press and hold the EQ button until the LED circle completely lights up
2)  Use the Rate knob to select which session you wish to load. Slots with a session in them will flash in the LED circle.
3)  Tap the Play button to load that slot's session.

To Erase a saved Session:
1)  Press and hold the EQ button until the LED circle completely lights up
2)  Use the Rate knob to select which session you wish to erase.
3)  Press and hold the White Slice button until the RGB LED turns to a brighter white. (Holding is a safety measure to avoid accidental erasure!)

To Exit "Flash-8 mode":
In case of accidental entry (i.e. trying to switch polarity on EQ CV and holding button way too long) just tap the EQ button again to exit
*Time-out: If the Rate knob isn't moved for 10 seconds while in Flash-8 Mode, it will time out and exit.

What gets saved?

When you save a session, the following is saved:
-All sample data from start of memory to the end
-All Slices created
-A running SGS (Slice Groove Sequencer) sequence will load and play from the beginning
-A clocked SGS (Slice Groove Sequencer) sequence will load and wait for a clock to step to
-All modes including PlayFX, Mode (Echo, Layer, R/P etc), and
-T/F/G/C input and Loop settings
-EQ band Settings
-MIDI Controlled settings at point of Saving Session

The following is not saved:
-Present MIDI CC and Channel assignments are not saved as these settings are more to adapt to hardware being used for MIDI control.
-A Record session is saved and will load and continue, but in Layer mode may fall out of time. Saving a presently recording state is not logical anyway!
-SGS Recording state is saved but because of the timed nature will certainly not load well!
-The PlayFX knobs may still dictate the way Play FX plays now if they are moved at all after loading.

Demonstration and Development Videos

  REFLEX + FLASH8 SPLASH VIDEO

All of the sound in this video is pure Reflex!

Here the Flash-8 is under FL Studio control as a looping sequence. The audio has been saved to the Flash-8 but the normal operation records:

Each time the sequence loops (normally) another 10 Slices are recorded and the whole thing starts again with new samples. Drums are added at the start of each Slice sample to maintain a "beat" to the following sequence, but also vocals are mixed in.

Reflex under Sequarallel control, sequence originally recorded into the Sequarallel module from FL Studio and, you guessed it, it the same sequence as above. This was mostly to demonstrate the Sequarallel but wouldn't have been possible without the Flash-8.
